It's our Track & Field Day and we are ready to have TONS of fun!

We NEVER get to run or scream in the halls at school! Since everyone else will be outside for Track & Field, we are going to take advantage of that this afternoon! Oh boy...you may just hear the screaming and laughter!
Shhh!! Don't tell anyone...

~We are winding up our Book Club groups today. Please return your book bag and any books you have so our volunteer can start putting them away. Thank you!
Math: I wish all of you could have heard the interaction and learning going on during the card game Totally 10! that the kids played yesterday. There is nothing better than learning through play! The kids will get the chance to play this game again to find combinations that total 10.

~Once again, the children were learning from our volunteer artist, Mary. They drew pigeons for a class book that will be placed in our school library.

~Our class color for tomorrow's Track & Field events is purple. Also, please have your child wear their tennis shoes to school tomorrow. Again, we are participating only in the morning.
~There is only one lunch option for the school menu tomorrow:
Bag lunch: Ham, Turkey and Cheese Sandwich/Baby Carrots/Apple/Granola Bar

Phonics:  We will dig into the long i vowel sound today.

Writer's Workshop: Mrs. Harlan is my principal. What does she do all day?

Math: Today we are going to play a game with cards called Totally 10!  Working with partners, the first child turns 2 cards over.
The goal is to match 2 cards that make a total of 10 when added together. If 10 is made, the child gets to keep those two cards and say Totally 10!

Phonics: We dig into the long a vowel sound today. Bossy "e" at the end of words is just so bossy! He makes the vowel say it's own name!
 Writer's Workshop: The kids will choose their topic for writing today. 
  Handwriting: Numbers 3 and 4
A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read When a Dragon Moves in.  

The preschoolers are coming to our classroom from 10:00-10:45 today to experience a tiny taste Kindergarten. After hearing the story, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses, your child will be the teacher and help their little buddy make Pete the Cat from the story. The K-kids will help their buddy complete the sentence: Kindergarten will be _______.This will be made into a headband for the preschooler to wear home.

 Reader's Workshop: We will perform the Reader's Theater story Finding Shapes to each other today. Their work focuses on:

~Demonstrating their level of fluency development through an oral reading interpretation of the script.
~Demonstrating active listening skills.

Math: Slate Math
The children will be working on a math app called Slate Math. This app helps the children with Kindergarten math standards to increase skills in number sense, counting, and simple addition/subtraction equations.
