  Letter Study: Yy
 Popcorn Word:  as
There will be a knock on the classroom door today. When I arrive at the door, a box will be left for us to open. Inside, an elf (that looks like the one pictured here) will be inside with a letter for us. He of she is getting ready for some silly shenanigans that will go on in our classroom throughout these next two weeks!

Writer's Workshop: The children will be writing to the elf who is yet to be named...
Math: We begin a new unit today called Measuring and Counting. A letter explaining this unit will come home with your child tonight.
Today's lesson is called Measuring Our Shoes. The kids will be using connecting cubes to measure the length of their own shoe. Their work focuses on:
~Understanding what length is.
~Repeating multiple nonstandard units (connecting cubes) to quantify length.
~Developing strategies for measuring the length of an object.
Smart Room Highlight: Jumping to 'p, q, b, d'
To help kids internalize the names of these confusing letters, they stand at the bottom of one line (You see two lines because two kids are at the station.) and jump to where the circle is place on the particular letter. The letters are written on the board for the kids to follow along with.

~It is a great feeling to be back in the classroom after a week of learning about my colleagues here at MLE. I saw a lot of GREAT teaching and have things to bring back for your kiddos to help them learn even more!
~It is late start tomorrow and we are SUPER  excited to celebrate with any of you who can come to lunch and the program!
~The book order deadline is extended through tomorrow to insure delivery before the holiday break.
