Thursday, October 9

Thursday, October 9
The kids will see a short video on fire safety today.
Letter Focus: Ll
Sight Word Focus: it
 Handwriting: Letter L
Phonological Awareness: Segmenting Compound Words
EX: homework (home-work)

Language Arts: Practice reading Hickory, Dickory, Dock with varied speed and pacing. Tonight, I will send home this poem to work on fluency/pacing with your child. Please point to the words as you read it with your child. This will reinforce what we worked on today. Ideas to remember:
~We read different kinds of texts at different speeds.
~We read easy parts faster and hard parts slower.
~We match our pacing to what the author is saying.
~Reading too fast makes the reading hard to understand.
~Reading too slowly does not sound natural.
~No matter what speed we use to read, we pay attention to punctuation.
Math: 2D Shapes: Attributes of a Rectangle & Square/Writing #3
DAILY 5: They made it 8 minutes at 'Read to Self' yesterday...This is a HUGE success!
Computer class today

SMART Room: Frankenstein's Nut & Bolts (Excellent fine motor activity!)
PhyEd Day
~What a fabulous trip we had to the fire station! The children seemed to really enjoy seeing, hearing, and trying out some of the equipment. A special thank you to Firefighter, Steve Peterson & John Erger for taking the time to share their knowledge with us!
