Happy birthday Levi!
Language Arts: Finding the main idea and supporting details using the poster Busy Family.
Math: Same and different, matching quantities to 3
Writing: 1, 2, 3
Today we are going to talk about matching items that are exactly the same. I will lay out 3 squares. Then I will match it on the other side of the paper. I need to make sure I have the same thing and the same amount. I need to count. I will touch each thing as I count it. On this side I have 3 blue squares and on this side I have 3 blue squares. Repeat modeling while counting each set. Model it incorrectly (1 on one side, 2 on the other) so you can talk about how they are not the same.
Whole Group Explore: In partners, students will play “Match it". One partner will put items on one side of their mat and say, Match it.” Their partner will then match the manipulatives.
Observe and support student math talk. “Why is this the same?” “How do you know?”
Lesson Objectives:
~Identify a stated main idea based on a picture.
~Identify details that support the main idea.`
~Ask questions about a picture.
~Use academic sentence frames to discuss strategies.
