Reading Skills: Main Idea and Supporting Details (Chapter 4)
Again, using the book What Are Some Rules at Home? the kids will:
~Ask questions about the text.
~Identify main ideas and supporting details.
~Learn about nonfiction text structures (description).
~Build oral language and vocabulary through whole-group discussion.
Literacy Shelf
Again, the children select literacy-based activities off a shelf to increase skill development for letters, sounds, and words.
New Concepts: Today we are going to look closely at 3D shapes. I am
going to empty my bag of shapes and really examine them. Here is
something else...some 3D shapes have faces. Faces are flat parts of a 3D
shape. I am going to put stickers on the faces of the shapes.
Whole Group Explore: How do you think I could sort them? (roll/does
not roll, edges/no edges, corners/no corners). Demonstrate a few of the
sorts, then play “Guess my sort”. Sort your shapes, then have students
guess how you sorted them.
Student Application:
Students will practice numeral formation 1-5.
Students will color the shapes that have faces blue. They will put an x on
the shapes that do not have a face.
SMART Room: Balance Beam
The kids carry the pumpkin filled with corn on one side of their body and transfer the corn to the other side of their body when returning on the other balance beam.
