Again, Book Club will resume when assessments for report cards are completed.

KinderMath: Combining Sets Up to 20
We will again be focusing on combining sets but this time to 20. Again, this is not a 'true' addition lesson but rather getting the kiddos to become confident in combining two sets of objects for a total or 'in all'. We will also work on counting on to combine. We want to teach the importance and reason behind counting on, especially with larger numbers. For example...How many brown dogs? (11) How many black dogs? (4) How many dogs in all?
*Count on from 11...*11*, 12, 13, 14, 15.  There are 15 dogs in all.

Project: In preparation for Dr. Seuss Day, the kids will be making a headband of Things 1 or 2 that they need for tomorrow.

Again, Book Club will resume when assessments for report cards are completed.KinderMath: Find Differences of Sets to 10
In today’s lesson, the kids will be going further than simply comparing two sets as more or less. They will be working on stating how many the difference between two sets is. For this activity, each pair will need two sets of number cards 1-10 and 20 snap cubes. Each partner will pull a card and build that amount of cubes. Students will then “make friends” with their cubes so they can easily see how many more/fewer. Again, the kids will focus on stating the amount that the difference is.

KinderLiteracy: Bear's Loose Tooth
We are applying the vocabulary words through questions and actions:

1. Which would you prefer to nibble on – carrots or ice cream?
2. Do you think Bear would savor bugs or blueberries?
3. Share about a time you may have fretted about something.

4. Which of these animals do not perch on branches–canary, fish, or owl?  Defend your answer.

5. Pretend to pry open a large box.
6. Using your arms flutter around the room.

 KinderMath: One More, One Less
Most of the children are confident with one more but less confident with one less. This lesson will help increase their confidence with this concept.
• Activity One: Pairs will work together lining numeral cards (9-20) needed for activity two.
• Activity Two: Commands will be said like, “Find the number that is one more than 12. Find the number that is one less than 20.”

• Activity Three: Pairs will need these number cards and 40 snap cubes. The kids will place a number in the middle. One partner will show the set that is ONE LESS using cubes, and the other partner will show a set that is ONE MORE with cubes.

 KinderMath: Compare Numbers 11-20
Today’s lesson will focus on students comparing numbers 11-20 once again. However, this time the kids will also be focusing on the numeral itself. We will use the same counting book as yesterday (How Many Snails?) to count sets of objects, and write the matching numeral that goes with each set. An example...
How many star fish are there? {17} How many dogs do are there? {15} Both numbers will be written on the board. The kids will explain their thinking with question probes like, How do you know? and Can you prove that?

KinderMath: Compare 'Some Extra'
The kids will be focusing on the “extras” of a teen number (15 is 10 and 5 extras/16 is 10 and 6 extras). Using the story, How Many Snails? by Paul Giganti, the kids will count the cupcakes with sprinkles and have their partner show that on their ten-frame. “We counted 13 cupcakes with sprinkles. Can you say that the 'say ten way'? Yes, ten three!” Next, they will count the cupcakes with white icing. Have the other partner show that number on their ten-frame. “How many cupcakes did we count with white icing? Yes, 14 cupcakes! Can you say that the 'say ten way'? Yes, ten four!”Now, just state the extras that are off your ten frame board. 3! 4! So, what is more: 3 or 4? Yes, 4! So, the cupcakes that were ten four or 14 is more! 14 is more than 13!”  The same statements above will be repeated throughout the book for the children to show on their ten-frame.
