KinderLiteracy: Koala Lou
We will be rereading parts of the book to answer some text-dependent questions.
The photo below shows what these questions are.
KinderPhonics: Short Vowel Sound Review
Phonemic Awareness: Deleting Phonemes
Delete the beginning sound to make a new word: Mice (delete m): ice; Dart (delete d): art
Writer's Workshop: Starting with a Hook
(We ran out of time the other day for this.)
This lesson helps the children think about starting their story with words that capture a reader right away. Words like Whee! Ouch! Yowza!
The kids will watch as I build THREE ten sticks with cubes and count by 10's to 30. I'll lay down 6 additional cubes and ask, Now how many do I have? 30 and 6, 36! There is also another math tool we have used to help us with ten...a TEN frame! The kids will use ten frames to count up to 49. I will turn over a number card. It is a 4 and a 2. I know the first number tells me how many TENS I need. Four tens means four ten frames. I will lay down 4 ten frames. I know the second number tells me how many “extras” I need. I will then lay down 2 extra cubes to make 42. They will continue practicing this skill with various numbers between 30-49.
