First, the kids take a 100’s chart that has been cut it into pieces and put it back together. Next, partners will be given a collection of 100+ items to place on ten 10-Frames. Today’s purpose is to get kids acquainted with counting collections and focus on merely the counting. The kids will be counting out items and placing them onto a blank ten frame as this will ensure they have ONLY ten items. They will then transfer the items from the ten frame to a plate and continue this process until all of their items have been counted. They will then count out their collection by tens and then the extras.
