Phonics: Manner of Articulation
Sounds are produced by sending air up from the lungs through the mouth or nose. Consonant sounds disrupt the airflow in some way. The manner of articulation is the way in which the airstream is disrupted. Stops are consonant sounds that are produced by completely stopping airflow. Nasal, or nose sounds are produced when the air is shut off from coming out of our mouth, and instead comes out through the nasal cavity.
Stops: /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/
Nasals: /m/, /n/
