Again, KinderLiteracy is the name of our reading program we use for kindergarten at Maple Lake. It digs deep into texts to help build understanding and meaning through weekly themes that support comprehension.
This week's theme is Friends and the focused text is Huggapotamus by: Steve Metzger.

Today, the children will hear the story for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge.
Phonics: Introduction to Fricatives & Affricates
A fricative sound pushes air through a small opening and it makes friction. These sounds are:
/f/, /v/, /th/, /s/, /z/, /sh/, /zh/, /h/
Affricates are sounds that push air through a small opening very quickly. These sounds are:
/ch/ & /j/
**We will revisit vertical and horizontal lines by making the letters H, T, & I.
The kids will be comparing two different amounts of items (up to 5) and use math vocabulary (more/bigger, less/smaller) to tell what they notice. This is a basic introduction lesson for comparing numbers.
School Bus Safety Week
The kids will learn about waiting for the school bus in a safe place.
