Math: Equal Sign
Today we move into the abstract symbol of the equal sign. As you know, the kids have worked hard in understanding combining of sets. Now it's time to apply those skills through a new means! To help launch today's lesson, we will read through Animals on Board by: Stuart Murphy and meet the character, Ellie the Equal.
For today, the kids will use the equal sign rather than the term 'makes' to complete the problem
4 + 2 = 6

~The Peeps were fed Smarties over the last couple of days, and are ready to come home today!
~The kids did a great job keeping their egg warm yesterday...just look at all those cracks!
~If the kids are successful at staying on their egg today, a little surprise is going to 'hatch' in their nest!

~I will send home all their winter gear today. Here's hoping it won't be needed anymore after break!
Have a wonderful spring break!

Writer's Workshop: Introduction to a Sentence Stem
These are basically sentence starters such as: I like ____. or This is a ___. The sentence  stems are mostly words that have been explicitly taught and the children know how to read. Today, all of the kids will work with I see a _____. as their sentence starter.

Math: Plus Sign
Today we move into the abstract symbol of the plus sign. As you know, the kids have had a ton of practice combining sets to find out how many in all. Now it's time to apply those skills through a new means! To help launch today's lesson, we will read through If I Were a Plus Sign by: Trisha Speed Shaskan and meet the character, Gus the Plus.
For today, we will still use the word, 'makes' rather than the equal sign.
4 + 2 makes 6
Music Today

Your child will be trying to 'hatch' an egg over the next two days. If they are successful at staying on their egg, it might have a crack in it before the end of the day tomorrow!

Your child has been taking very good care of their peep this week! It is wrapped in a cozy napkin and being fed Smarties so it doesn't go hungry!

~No extra news for today.

Library Day!

Writing Activity: My peep likes to...
*In addition to the peep activity, we are going to spread a little love by making some cards for residents of a nursing home.
Math: Add with a Number Path
The children will work with a number path similar to the picture below.
Researchers believe that a number line is just too abstract for our young mathematicians. Our students need to be able to visually see each unit, which is the box containing a number. This allows for concrete understanding of seeing how many spaces it is from one number to another.
The kids will do a number of problems similar to this:
There were 4 frogs on a log. 2 more hopped on. How many are on the log?
