Math: Minus Sign
The kids are working hard to gain an understanding of subtracting and it's time to focus on this abstract symbol. To begin the lesson, the kids will hear the story, If You Were a Minus Sign by: Trisha Speed ShaskanNext, the kids will hold up the minus sign or equal sign of where they belong in the statement when acting out the following scenarios...
*There were 5 kids at the park, but then 4 of the kids walked home, ( 4 = 1).
* 6 dogs were in the yard but 4 dogs ran away, (6 – 2).
* 5 butterflies were on the flower but 2 butterflies flew away, (5  2 = 3).

We Love our Earth!
This week we will do activities that promote caring for our earth.

Today the kids will learn about 'Litter' Red Riding Hood who thinks it is okay to drop her garbage on the ground instead of putting it in the trash can. The story explains how it hurts animals, our environment, and people. At the conclusion of the story, the kids will sequence the events as they occurred in the story.
