 Language Arts: Using the story Mr. Mendez, the children will use comprehension strategies to answer questions about the text.
 Writer's Workshop: The kids are continuing to learn about book reviews through the Where's Molly? a story about a boy who is looking for his cat. The last time we talked about the characters in the review and now we will focus on the story events. They are writing in their journal on a topic of their choice until we complete learning about how to write a book review.
 Math:
Using a numberline, the kids will work on addition equations. In partners, one child rolls a dot cube and places a cube on the corresponding number (3) on the numberline. That same child rolls the dot cube again and moves the cube that far (4) on the numberline. The other partner writes the equation: 3 + 4 = 7.
 Watch for it to come home today...Due Monday.

 Language Arts: Using the poster Busy in the Yard, the kids are learning strategies for analyzing questions and finding answers, clues, and evidence in a text.
Watch for homework to come home with your child today about this lesson!
Handwriting: Copying Sentences

 Writer's Workshop: The kids are continuing to learn about book reviews through the Where's Molly? a story about a boy who is looking for his cat. They are writing in their journal on a topic of their choice. 
 A storybook reader is scheduled for 1:00 to read Score One for the Sloth.
 Language Arts: Using a poster called  The City, the kids will continue to work on summarizing what they see in pictures and read in text. They have been learning strategies like checking the pictures and rereading to help understand the content.
I see the city.
I see many buildings.
I see places where people shop.
Cars drive in and out of the city.
  DAILY 5
 Math: Addition Math Equations 
After reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? The kids will be making addition equations using the characters from the story. This will be made into a class book.

~Conferences begin tomorrow evening. I am looking forward to visiting with you who are scheduled for tomorrow night! Be sure to check out some of the work that will be on the table outside our classroom and again, you will write your child a note  to be placed on their locker.

 Writer's Workshop: Learning More About Book Reviews
After reading the story Where's Molly?, the kids will show a happy/sad face to express their opinion about each of these story elements: characters, story events, illustrations.
They will be given time to write independently on a topic of their choice in their journal.

~Keeping both feet together, the kids jump over the lines while turning their bodies...


DAILY 5: EVERYONE in our class is READING! It's now time to introduce the last component of DAILY 5-Read to Someone. Partners read books from their browsing boxes to each other. This has to be one of the most precious things to watch! Again, the other 4 components of DAILY 5 are:
~Word Work
~Listen to Stories on CD
~Work on Writing
~Read to Self

 Math: Building Addition Problems 

The kids select a number card and place that many in a row. A dot cube is rolled to determine how many to add to that set.
The last step is to write it: ___ + ___ = ___.
