


With partners, partner 1 builds a set using cubes. Partner 2 rolls a cube that has +1 or -1 on it. Partner 2 matches the same number of cubes that partner 1 has and adds or subtracts one to their set. An important piece is to do 'math talk'. After the sets are built, the children should say something like this: "8 is one more than 7." or "7 is one less than 8."
Switching from +1 to -1 can be tricky. This lesson will be repeated a couple of times for the kids to get additional practice.



We will not visit the library today as 'Battle of the Books' for the upper grades is taking place.
