Happy Groundhog's Day!

Color Word Focus: brown
 Phonics: -am Word Family
 Reading Workshop: Using the story Animals in Their Habitats, the students will:
Build academic vocabulary and concepts related to animals in their habitats.  
~Summarize information from the text.
 ~Identify and discuss nonfiction text features (table of contents).
~Build oral language and vocabulary through whole-group and partner discussion.
 Groundhog Literacy: Short Vowel i & u Sort
 Writer's Workshop:  Today we will really focus on stretching longer words out. The idea is to start writing more sounds in those words.
Math: The children will be graphing their predictions of whether or not the groundhog will see it's shadow. They will also work on a groundhog Positions Word book
  Stories: Ten Grouchy Groundhogs!  By: Kathryn Helig
                     Double Trouble Groundhog Day  By: Bethany Roberts

Project: "Groundhog, where is Spring?" The children are making a pop-up groundhog puppet.

 Smart Room Highlight: Colorful Love Notes
The idea is for the kids to color small areas to control their fine motor ability.
