Reader's Workshop: Through the story Who's in the Shed? by Brenda Parkes, the kids will build academic vocabulary and concepts related to farms, review concepts of print, and make inferences about the text.
Popcorn Word: each
Number Word Focus: five
Word Family: -it
DEAR 8:30-8:45
A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:30 to read Snowman Magic.
Math: Heavier, Lighter, Same As
New Concept: Today we are going to use our balance again. We know if we put 3 bears in one side of the balance, we will need to put 3 bears on the other side of the balance to make them the same. I want to do the same thing with my playdough. I am going to make a ball of playdough on one side, then put another ball on the other side to make them the same. Demonstrate adding and deleting until they are the same weight. Make them into round balls. Now I wonder what will happen if I change the shape of one of the playdough balls. Will it still balance? Flatten one of the balls and place it back in the cup to demonstrate conservation of mass. Explain that just because the shape has changed the weight of it has not.
Whole Group Explore: Today you and your partner will repeat the playdough activity that I just did. First make two balls of clay that are the same weight. Then change the shapes of the balls to see if they still balance.
The children will work with Mary Zillman

Students from Mrs. Fynboh's High School Spanish class will be with us every day this week from 8:15-8:50. Yesterday the students taught the children color words rather than abc's in Spanish. Today, they are scheduled to teach numbers.
