Math: Numberline Subtraction
New Concept: The other day we practiced drawing pictures as a subtraction
strategy. Today I want to show you another strategy. We can also use the
number line just like we did for addition. I am going to roll the
dice(5). Now I am going to put my frog on number 5. Now I am going to
roll again (2). I am going to hop back two spots Count with me...So 5 -2 = 3.
Repeat this several times.
Whole Group Explore: Today you are going to use the strategy of using
a number line to help you with subtraction. You will first roll the dice and
put one cube on that number. Then roll again and put one cube on the other
number. You will need to count your hops to find your answer. Your
partner will write your equation down.
Then you will switch.
Student Application: Students will practice writing their equations.
