Reader's Workshop: Using intonation to read with expression. To emphasize this, I will read the nursery rhyme Little Bo Peep in a monotone voice and then reread it again using proper intonation. The kids will try it with me too. We will then practice our parts in People at School.
Writer's Workshop: Remember our Elf on the Shelf? Well today the children will be meeting their leprechaun on a shelf. The kids will journal where the leprechaun was found and where they think it will be tomorrow and Friday. A note about our elf and what we name it will come home today! Do you notice it in the picture below?

New Concept: I have an egg carton that I have made a few changes to. Normally an egg carton would have 12 spots to hold the eggs. Let’s count to see how many this carton has. I am going to drop a cube in each spot as I count. So how many do I have? (10)
Whole Group Explore: Today, we are going to play a game called “Pass the beans.” Each pair of students start with an empty egg carton and a bag of manipulatives. Students will place the manipulatives in the egg carton slots as they count. Then I will give the signal, “Pass the beans” and the bag of manipulatives will rotate in a clockwise direction. Continue this until all items are counted.
Before we start, let me tell you, some of the bags have 10 times and some do not. Try to remember which ones had ten.
Which bags had 10? How did the egg carton help you?
Student Application: Students will work independently to identify groups of 10.
Time for Kids: Welcome to the Rain Forest!
