                     Writer's Workshop: Spacing
We are modeling the need for spaces between our words...
Boyandgirlstodaywearegoingtolearnsomethingreallyimportant.” Whoa, boys and girls! What just happened? Yes, I forgot to take a breath! When I was looking over some of your stories, I was reading them like this! Some of us forgot to put spaces in-between our words. It’s important that we put spaces in-between our words. Let me write this sentence.” (Write the sentence as follows: Iseethecat.) “What is wrong with this sentence? Yes, there is no space between the words! Okay, let me try again!” (Write the sentence as follows: I   see     the   cat.) "What is wrong with this sentence? Yes, there is too much space! Let’s try once more!” (Write the sentence as follows: I see the cat.) “What about this one! Is it okay? At this point, the kids will each receive Spaceman (as pictured below) to help with making spaces.

 Math: Constructing Solid Shapes
• Review solid shape posters.
• We will discuss with the students how some blocks are able to stack on top of one another and which ones will stack.
•Students will help determine which shapes will roll, stack, and slide.
• We will start by rolling the sphere to a few friends and then try to roll the cube, cylinder, and cone. We will try to understand why the cube doesn’t roll.
• We will then move on to sliding by sliding a cube over to a friend and then attempt to slide the cone, cylinder, and sphere. We will point out how the cylinder and cone can only slide on their FACE.
• Lastly, they will explore with stacking. The kids help determine which solid shapes will stack. Point out how the cone and cylinder only stack on their faces as well and discover why the sphere is unable to stack.
MLK ActivityWe will do this activity today to show the kids that even though we look different on the outside, all of us look the same on the inside.
