• Have students sit around the math carpet in a circle. Have prepared a couple of objects or stuffed animals and a chair. Have students help to answer your positional word questions. Place the “bear” under the chair, on the chair, next to the chair. Continue with the second object having the students use their math vocabulary to explain their answers. To get the kids up and trying out the positional words, have them stand next to their table/chair. Have them follow your prompts as they stand next to, under, on, etc.
After students are confident with their positional words, it’s time to wrap up the shape unit with one of these fun positional word/shape monster crafts.
