KinderLiteracy
Using the story, Apple for Everyone, the kids will ask/answer simple recall questions such as: Where does this story take place? What kind of book is this? What is a fact we learned about apples? etc. In addition, we will address related vocabulary (bloom, ripe, thud, dribble, rot).

Handwriting: Handwriting: ez Across & Tall and Short Line Down Review

Writer's Workshop: Drawing Shape People
KinderMath: Sort By More than One Attribute
The lesson begins with reading, The Button Box by Margarette Reid. I will ask their thoughts on how the buttons are being sorted (size, color, shape, style, etc.) Then we will look at a pile of attribute buttons and talk about how they think we should sort them. More than likely, the kids will focus on color so I will get them to think past that. (Sort by shape, button hole amount, size, etc.)

(Comprehension Strategy: Connections & Inferring)

Writer's Workshop:
Building Shape People
After exploring with pattern blocks yesterday, the kids will build shape people with the blocks today. The idea is to show the kids that various shapes can be used for a head, body, and legs/arms.
  KinderMath: Sort by One Attribute
The kids will sort items by a specific attribute: Color, size, or shape.

Parenting Corner: Boundaries

Did you know that it is healthy for children to have boundaries? Knowing they have boundaries can make children feel secure and safe. Setting rules, limits, and routines help children know what you expect of them. These include routines for mealtimes, bath time, bedtime. Having set routines will also help YOU. Once your child knows the routine, arguments will decrease because the routine becomes a habit. Will it be perfect? No!  But things will go much smoother.

To create good routines …

  • Be clear (make sure your child completely understands each step of the routine)

  • Be consistent (Yes, this is hard.  But you CAN do it!!!!)

  • Be firm (but not cold)

  • Acknowledge and praise their efforts since new routines will not be learned immediately.

I will reread parts of A Tree for All Seasons so the children can answer text-dependent questions like the ones below:
~Explain how a tree looks in the winter.
~What does the author tell us about trees providing for us?
~What can we infer about the animals we see on page 3?
KinderMath: Noticing Differences
As we did yesterday, the kids will look at another picture on the SmartBoard and use their 'math talk' to tell what differences they see. Next, I will call pairs of students to stand so that we can see what is different about them. (One is a boy, one is a girl; one has brown hair, one has blonde hair, etc.)

Our library time is from 9:50-10:20. Books will be due back on the following Tuesday but can be sent back earlier when finished.

Computer Class is today with Mr. Brown from 12:25-1:00.

KinderMath: Alike and Different
We begin unit 2 today called Sort and Classify.
The kids will work with matching numbers to dots on a cube. They will then work on the math term 'alike' by playing Copy Cat with objects. I will place objects (snap cubes, bears) in a certain arrangement and the kids will copy my arrangement with their objects. Last, the kids will look at a picture on the SmartBoard and tell what they see that is alike or different among the objects.
