KinderLiteracy

Again, KinderLiteracy is the name of our reading program we use for kindergarten at Maple Lake. It digs deep into texts to help build understanding and meaning through weekly themes that support comprehension and other reading skills.
This week's theme is Friends and the focused text is Huggapotamus by: Steve Metzger.

Today, the children will hear the story for enjoyment and build an interest in the topic and expand their prior knowledge.

Phonics: Mouth Position Review
We will practice what we have learned so far about the position of our mouth in making certain consonant sounds: 
Lips Together: /p/, /b/, /m/

Teeth on Lips: /f/, /v/

Tongue Between Teeth: /th/ unvoiced, /th/ voiced

Tongue Behind Top Teeth: /t/, /d/, /n/, /s/, /z/, /l/

Lips Rounded, Tongue Back: /sh/, /zh/, /ch/, /j/, /y/, /r/

Back of Tongue Lifted: /k/, /g/, /ng/, /w/

Back of Throat: /h/
Alphabet Knowledge & Letter Formation

KinderMath: Read and Write 5

This lesson focuses on recognizing different groups of objects to 5. While it may seem like an easy concept, we are building foundational skills for accuracy in counting while developing number sense at the same time.

School Bus Safety Week
Today the kids will learn about waiting for the school bus in a safe place.
