Unit Big Idea: Students will explore numbers up to 100 and learn how to skip- count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
Have student practice counting by 2’s to 20. What is important about using two colors of numbers? What do you notice about the different colors of numbers? Why would we want to count by 2’s? Would we always count items by two’s? Be sure students know that we would not always count by 2’s if the set does not lend itself to that. Each pair of students will need 20 snap cubes. You will want to make sure there are 10 pairs of colors, such as 2 blue, 2 red, 2 green, 2 yellow, 2 purple, 2 black, 2 white, 2 pink, 2 blue, 2 red. Each pair will also need a set of count by 2’s number cards.
You and your partner will first make the pairs from the snap cubes. Then lay out your snap cubes with space between each set of cubes. Next, lay out the number cards under each set to match. Lastly, go back through and practice counting the cubes by 2’s.

~Be sure to keep your February I Love to Read Month calendar handy. We have lots of fun activities planned! For those who haven't seen our front lobby, the chameleon will change over the month as we calculate the amount of books read.
~The picture below is for the children to guess which staff members are hidden behind the animal faces.
