Writer's Workshop: Ask More
Today we are going to learn how our writing partner can assist us in our storytelling. I want you to think about a story you can write that you’d want to share with your writing partner. Remember everything that we’ve learned about mechanics, stretching words, and detailed pictures!
We will listen to our partner’s story and then ask them questions to help us better understand. Then, the storytellers will add those details and retell the story to us. After this, we will praise them for their hard work, and then we will read our story.

The kids will explore a 100's chart and take note of certain aspects. What do you notice about all the numbers going down this column? Yes, all of the numbers have a one in them! Look at this last column and count with me. We are able to count by 10’s. Now, find this number for me on your 100’s chart. Find the number 42. When finding 42, I know I will find the number that shows 4 tens and 2 extras.
Next, the kids will be directed in ordering numbers 50-79. Write the numbers 54, 62, and 71 on the board. What number could I look at to help me order these? Should I look at the tens or the extras? Be sure students know to look at the tens number when ordering and then the extras. Last, each pair will get a baggie with the number cards 50-79 and put them in order.
