KinderLiteracy: Dolphins
We will focus these vocabulary words within the story (pellets, fluffy, lively, burrow, gnaw) and answer these questions:
1) Who is the author? What is their job?
2) What is one fact we heard from the book?

Math: Addition Stories
In this lesson, the kids will continue to work on addition but move into word problems. To help launch today's lesson, we will read What's New at the Zoo by: Suzanne Slade. Addition word problems require a lot of listening comprehension skills. These skills will, at times, need more practice than the addition equation itself. Farmer John has a mommy cat and kittens. The mommy cat was outside the fence and the 4 kittens were inside the fence. How many cats are there in all? 1 + 4 = 5
Writer's Workshop: Label and Copy
The kids have been working on choosing the right sentence stem to begin their writing. Again, they are words that they must know how to read in order to use them in their writing. The first step is to draw a picture and label the parts. When writing about the picture, the children will be encouraged to copy one of the labels already written in the picture to complete the sentence stem. For instance, if a house is drawn and a labeled item is windo (window), we'll encourage your child to copy the labeled word (windo) instead of working on stretching it again to complete the sentence: I see the windo.
