DAILY 5
We are launching 'DAILY 5' in our classroom today. We begin by working on 'Read to Self' where the kids read books by looking at the pictures, words, or retelling. The children will work on building stamina by trying to read to themselves uninterrupted for 3 minutes. We try to reach that goal 3 times a day then add a minute on each time until we are successful for 7-10 minutes. Watch for a letter describing DAILY 5 to come home with your child this evening.

It's the 10th day of school so Zero the Hero will make his debut! He visits every 10th day of school to help guide the children in their understanding of 10. We sing a special song, eat a '0' shaped item and get stamped with a '0'. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
Math: The Counting Jar
To introduce the counting tube, I read Mouse Count by Ellen Stoll Walsh. The kids count objects that are placed in a bowl and use chips to make equivalent sets into a film canister. Their work focuses on:
~Developing strategies for accurately counting and keeping track of quantities up to 10.
~Creating an equivalent set.

A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:50 to read I Wanna New Room.

SMART Room: Introduction to the Stability Ball-commonly known as an exercise ball. We want the kids to bounce evenly with stability.
 Bus Safety
Always Obey the Bus Driver

Story: The Quiet Place By: Douglas Wood
Periodically, all of us need a place to refocus, calm down, or regroup to be ready to listen and learn. We will talk about where our 'Quiet Place' may be at home and where it will be at school. A spot is designated in our classroom as a place to go to take a break from the group, if needed. Your child may experience this place at some point during the school year as it is a place that is taught to be safe and OK to go to.
