Phonological Awareness: Oral Word Discrimination-Which word is different?
EX: check/cheese/check...kids point to # 1 or #2 or #3
Short and Long Words: Oral discrimination (takes longer to say) and visual discrimination (looks longer/shorter)
EX: tree -dinosaur
Language Arts: Practice reading Hickory, Dickory, Dock with varied speed and pacing. Tonight, I will send home this poem to work on fluency/pacing with your child. Please point to the words as you read it with your child. This will reinforce what we worked on today. Ideas to remember:
~We read different kinds of texts at different speeds.
~We read easy parts faster and hard parts slower.
~We match our pacing to what the author is saying.
~Reading too fast makes the reading hard to understand.
~Reading too slowly does not sound natural.
~No matter what speed we use to read, we pay attention to punctuation.

DAILY 5: When practicing stamina, the children are working on:
~Staying in one spot.
~Get started right away.
~Eyes on book.
~Read the whole time.
~Quiet.
~Away from friends.

***They made it 5 minutes yesterday! They are building their muscle memory to make useful time of their reading stamina.

Computer class with Miss Casebolt is from 9:00-9:30 this morning.
A storybook reader is scheduled for 9:50 this morning to read Amelia Bedelia's First Apple Pie.

Smart Room: Have your child do Superman for you.
