We begin a new unit of Geometry today by hearing the story, The Shape of Things by Dayle Ann Dodds. The children will brainstorm all the things they can think of that resemble a particular shape. Their ideas are placed on a poster. Finally, each child will choose a shape and creat something out of it. For instance, they may choose a square and then draw a triangle on top to create a house.
Their work focuses on:
~Developing language to describe and compare 2-D shapes and their attributes.
~Relating 2-D shapes to real-world objects.
