Monday, October 5

Monday, October 5
*FIRE SAFETY WEEK*
The kids will learn about 'Stop, Drop, & Roll' today.
Letter Study: Gg
Popcorn Word: a
We begin our sight word focus today. I use the term 'popcorn word' as well because these anchor words 'pop' up all over in our reading.
 Name Focus: Parker
DAILY 5
We are launching 'DAILY 5' in our classroom today. We begin by working on 'Read to Self' where the kids read books by looking at the pictures, words, or retelling. The children will work on building stamina by trying to read to themselves uninterrupted for 3 minutes. We try to reach that goal 3 times a day then add a minute on each time until we are successful for 7-10 minutes. Watch for a letter describing DAILY 5 to come home with your child today or tomorrow.

Language Arts: Main Idea & Supporting Details
images/f_0133.jpg
Using the book What Are Some Rules at Home? the kids will:
~Build academic vocabulary and concepts related to rules.
~Ask questions about a text.
~Identify main idea and supporting details.
~Identify and discuss nonfiction text features (table of contents).

Math:  Count to tell how many to 5
Writing 1-5
Today we are going to play a fun game. It is like Bingo, except in this game, everyone can win.
I am going to pull a number card out of a bag. You will look on your paper for a box that has that amount on it. So if I pulled out a 3, you could color the crayons, the crayon box, or the erasers.  But you can only color ONE box for each card.
There is also gift card.  If that card is pulled out you can color any box you want.
Winner: who ever gets 4 in a row.
SMART Room: Feed Frankenstein
These are tennis balls transformed into the head of Frankenstein. The kids feed him the mini pumpkins one at a time. This works the muscles in their hands while squeezing the ball...plus, it's fun!

Music Day

~Be sure to practice your word lists! Some lists are starting to come back already and the children are SUPER excited to get a sticker put on their chart! TIP: Do the words out of order so your child isn't memorizing them in the order they are placed.
~The book order is due Wednesday.
