Literacy Jobs
We begin a new unit today, Addition to 10. For these beginning lessons, the kids will be working on combining sets, but each day we will just work to a specific total. Today and tomorrow the kids will work on combinations to 5. The kids will NOT be expected or asked to use symbols (=, +) to represent their thinking. We will use hula hoops & string to create a part-part-whole template. (See the image below.) The kids will stand in the hula hoops to find out how many in all.
4 monkeys were on the bed (part) and 1 monkey on the floor (part). How many monkeys in all? 5 (whole)

In this lesson, students discover that there are pushes and pulls involved in any kind of work, including the work done by machines. In the activity, Be a Digging Machine, students pretend to use shovels and excavators to dig a hole for a swimming pool.
~We enjoyed having Mrs. Pesch (Freya's Grandma) read to us yesterday...
~Read the last chapter and return the choice board sheet tomorrow! We want 100% to be returned to win the pizza party!
