 Writer's Workshop: Add More Sounds
*We did not get to this on Tuesday.
I will draw a fiction story about a dog (character) at the park (setting).
The kids will watch as I model how to count the sounds on my fingers for each label I write. "I want to label the collar on my dog. Let's listen to how many sounds are in the word and put a finger up for each sound /c/ /o/ /l/ /r/. I have 4 fingers up so now I need to write 4 lines and say it again slowly and write each sound I hear."
The kids will then try that strategy on their own.

  KinderMath: Numbers 50-79
The kids will explore a 100's chart and take note of certain aspects. What do you notice about the numbers going across this row? All of the numbers have a 5 in them. Find the number 52 on your 100's chart. When finding 52, I know I find the number that shows 5 tens and 2 extras. Next, the kids will be directed in ordering numbers 50-79. The numbers 54, 62, and 71 will be written on the board. What number could I look at to help me order these? Should I look at the tens or the extras?  Last, each pair will get the number cards 50-79 to put in order.

   KinderMath: Numbers 30-49
The kids will watch as I build THREE ten sticks with cubes and count by 10's to 30I'll lay down 6 additional cubes and ask, Now how many do I have? 30 and 6, 36! In addition, the kids will use ten frames to count up to 49. I will turn over a number cardIt is a 4 and a 2. I know the first number tells me how many TENS I need. I know the second number tells me how many “extras” I need. I will then lay down 2 extra cubes to make 42. They will continue practicing this skill with various numbers between 30-49.

 Science: Making Moon Craters

 Writer's Workshop: Making Sound Lines
This lesson focuses on making a line for each sound your child hears in a word when labeling. It's a visual way for them to see how many sounds are in that particular word.

        KinderMath: Numbers 20-29

Today’s lesson focuses on the first of a few lessons  that will seem to be duplicates of each other. Kindergarten students need A LOT of hands-on work to understand numbers to 100. We want to make sure the kids have a FIRM  understanding of a “ten” so when they see 45 they  see 4 tens and 5 extras. Build Numbers to 29: For this activity, the kids use 29 snap cubes and build TWO 10 sticks. The rest of the cubes will be added to the two 10 sticks for each number l give them to create. They will build each number in the 20's as I say it. (Numbers will be stated out of order.)

 KinderMath: Counting By 10's

To begin the lesson, the kids will hear the story Toasty Toes by Michael Dahl to focus on counting by 10’s. Next, the kids will have time to explore counting to 100 by 10’s in a hands-on way. They will count out 10 objects onto a ten frame, then transfer the ten frame to a small paper plate. They will continue counting out the 10 sets of objects until all 10 paper plates are filled. They will then go back through and count the plates by 10’s to 100.

  KinderMath: Count by 5's
The kids will listen to the story, Tally O'Malley by Stuart Murphy and focus on counting by 5’s and understanding the use of tally marks. The kids will then get to apply their skills in using tally marks by taking inventory of the classroom. They will walk around the classroom and take inventory of the items listed on the sheet. The kids will continue to work with counting by 5’s and using tallies to do so. Then using popsicle sticks, they will create sets of tally marks to 20. After the sets of tally marks have been made, they will go back through and count the sets; 5, 10, 15, 20 and mark them with pictures of hands.

~Still the best...they love your children! Happy Paraprofessional Week!

~Yesterday, the kids were treated to a "book tasting" experience during their library time with Mrs. Thomas. She was ready to "serve" them some delicious books that they could "order" and "take out" for enjoyment at home. The kids had so much fun!
