Writer's Workshop: Add More Sounds
I will draw a fiction story about a dog (character) at the park (setting). The kids will watch as I model how to count the sounds on my fingers for each label I write. "I want to label the collar on my dog. Let's listen to how many sounds are in the word and put a finger up for each sound /c/ /o/ /l/ /r/. I have 4 fingers up so now I need to write 4 lines and say it again slowly and write each sound I hear."
The kids will then try that strategy on their own.

Literacy Jobs
KinderMath: Numbers 30-49
The kids will watch as I build THREE ten sticks with cubes and count by 10's to 30. I'll lay down 6 additional cubes and ask, Now how many do I have? 30 and 6, 36! In addition, the kids will use ten frames to count up to 49. I will turn over a number card. It is a 4 and a 2. I know the first number tells me how many TENS I need. I know the second number tells me how many “extras” I need. I will then lay down 2 extra cubes to make 42. They will continue practicing this skill with various numbers between 30-49.
