Phonological Awareness: Discriminate Initial Sounds-listening for words that begin with the same sound. We say a chant that goes like this:
Five baby bears in the bed.
One rolled over and hit his head.
Four baby bears in the bed.
One left to go and eat some bread.
Three baby bears in the bed.
"I've got to go,"one baby bear said.
Two baby bears in the bed.
"I want my pajamas that are red!"
One baby bear in the bed.
He's so comfortable with the whole bedspread.
We tally how many times we hear /b/ words.
Blend Syllables: Playground Pete will speak in syllables saying the names of zoo animals. The kids will blend the syllables and say the word: (mon-key/monkey)
Handwriting: T(Big line, little line on top)
Writer's Workshop: Different Kinds of Prewriting
(draw pictures, make a list, graphic organizer)
Language Arts: Analyzing Story Elements to enhance the understanding of a story.

Letter Study: Tt
Popcorn Word: you
Phonological Awareness: Blend Syllables: A bag is filled with random two/three syllable objects. The object is said in its segments and then taken out of the bag to confirm its name. (pen-cil/pencil)
Segment Words by Syllables: Using blocks, the kids will 'build' the word block by block to match the number of syllables in the word.
Language Arts: Introduce the Comprehension Strategy: Analyze Story Elements

Writer's Workshop: Prewriting Using a Story Web (Done on chart paper for modeling purposes.) The following picture is an example:
Math: Two Kinds of Cube Trains
This lesson concentrates on the ABAB pattern in a train made of cubes. Some children will make random color trains while others will make the ABAB pattern. This will lead into a discussion of comparing the differences between the two kinds of trains. Their work focuses on:
~Determining what comes next in a repeating pattern.
~Comparing repeating and non-repeating arrangements.

Word Work: Stamp the uppercase letter that matches the lowercase letter
