Writer's Workshop: An Introduction to Writing Folders
The children are guided through the purpose of having their own writing folder and why it's important to keep it neat/clean and where to store them.
DAILY 5: New Word Work: Beginning Sound Sort
New Work on Writing: Rainbow Writing a Friend's Name
Math: Grab and Count: Ordering
The children grab a handful of connecting cubes 4 different times. Each time, they connect the cubes and determine the order to put them in from least to most. They record their findings on paper. Their work focuses on:
~Comparing lengths to see which is more.
~Developing language for comparing lengths (long, longer than, short, shorter than, the same, equal to) and quantities (more, greater, less, fewer, most, least, fewest, same, and equal to.)
Smart Room Highlight: Feed the Turkey(Pushing pipe cleaners through small holes on top of a Pringles can.)
~Please take a look at our classroom 'Wish List'. If you are able to help in anyway, it would be so appreciated!
Our Classroom Wish List
Phonological Awareness: Sound Discrimination-listening for words that begin with the same sound. We say a chant that goes like this:
Five lizards live in a log.
One left to live with a frog.
One left to live with a dog.
Two left to live a hog.
One little lizard living in the bog.
It's a little lonely living in a log.We tally how many times we hear /l/ words.
Segment Words by Syllables by Pantomiming: A student performs an action and the class guesses what it is. For instance, if a student pantomimes climbing, the kids will repeat the word climbing, clap the syllables, and say how many syllables it is. In addition, we will create a KWL chart which is: What I Know, What I Want to Know, What I Learned
Language Arts: Using the book The Life Cycle of a Frog, the kids will build academic vocabulary and concepts related to frogs while identifying and discussing nonfiction text features (table of contents and glossary).
