Phonics: -ake Word Family
Language Arts: Using the story Children Past and Present, the kids will build build academic vocabulary/concepts related to children in the past and present time. We will also identify and discuss nonfiction text features. (table of contents, boldface words, glossary)
Writer's Workshop: Continuing our work on Informational Reports, the kids will hear a report about coral reefs which is inside the book Discover Informational Reports. We will point out that two ways to learn about a topic is to read facts and find facts in photographs. To finish Writer's Workshop, the kids will write in their journal on a topic of their choice.

The kids will count out 10 items first and put the remaining 3 near the group of ten. What's different this time is that they are not using an egg carton Ten-Frame to keep track of the group of ten.They continue spinning to try other combinations such as 1 ten, 7 ones; 1 ten 2 ones, etc.
