Daily 5!
Math: Subtraction Equations from 5
New Concept: Today we are going to play “Shake, Shake, Shake” again, but we are going to play it differently. Today we are going to start with 5 counters in a cup (count them as you put them in). Now I am going to shake, shake, shake them and spill them out on the floor. I have to be really careful to keep my pieces close to me. Now I can talk about this.“I started with 5. I have 3 red. That means I have 2 yellow.” I can also write about this. 5-3=2 . Repeat this demonstration a few times.
Whole Group Explore: Students will start with 5 chips in their cup. Half way through the explore, add one more chip, so now the students will be working with 6 chips.
