Reader's Workshop: Practice Reading Hot Cross Buns with Expression
Writer's Workshop: We will make our writing sound like it is us talking, as if we were right there listening. For example, "I wish we could play all day long!"
Math: Addition Equations
New Concept: Today I want to teach you a new game. This game is called “Shake, Shake, Shake.” We are going to start with 5 counters in my cup (count them as you put them in). Now I am going to shake, shake, shake them and spill them out on the floor. I have to be really careful to keep my pieces close to me. Now I can talk about this. “I have 2 red and 3 yellow. That makes 5.” I can also write about this...2 + 3 = 5. Repeat this demonstration a few times.
Whole Group Explore: Students will play Shake, Shake, Shake with their partner. Each student will complete their own response paper. The first line will have the symbols (+, =), but the rest of the paper will require the students to write the entire equation.
NOTE: This activity will be repeated over the next few days.
