New Concept
Short vowels (review) with consonant clusters.
Again, we will be focusing on combining sets but this time to 20. Again, this is not a "true" addition lesson, but rather getting the kids to become confident in combining two sets of objects for a total or "in all". It's important to teach them the reason behind counting on. For example 7 bears and 8 apples. How many in all? *Count on from 7...*7*, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
In this lesson, students observe the path of the sun in the summer and in the winter and realize that light from the sun keeps the earth warm. In the activity, Mysterious Melting Marshmallows, students solve a mystery: what made the marshmallows melt? (The answer, of course, is the heat of the Sun.)
