~Compare and contrast two community helpers.
~What does the author provide you with to entice your thoughts on community helpers?

Stories become more interesting if we give the characters different types of feelings.

KinderMath: Combining Sets to 5
We begin a new unit today, Addition to 10. For these beginning lessons, the kids will be working on combining sets, but each day we will just work to a specific total. Today and tomorrow the kids will work on combinations to 5. The kids will NOT be expected or asked to use symbols (=, +) to represent their thinking. We will use hula hoops & string to create a part-part-whole template. (See the image below.) The kids will stand in the hula hoops to find out how many in all.
 4 monkeys were on the bed (part) and 1 monkey on the floor (part). How many monkeys in all? 5 (whole)
