In today's lesson, the kids will work on the concept of adding on 0 and 1. This will be done by using a 'life-size' number path (1-10) on our classroom floor. Each child will have a turn to show what happens when we add 1 more by hopping to that number. For instance, if they are standing on 3 and I say, "Add 1", they would hop to 4. Next, the kids will take turns to show what happens when I say, "Add 0". Again, the idea within this entire unit is laying the foundation for using +, -, = symbols. In this lesson, students use observations of the four classic seasons to spot patterns and thereby determine the seasons’ order. In the activity, Circle of Seasons, students make observations of the four classic seasons of the temperate zone: snowy winter, warm spring, hot summer, and cool autumn with colorful leaves. Students spot patterns and determine the order of the seasons.
