~What a fabulous trip we had to the fire station! The children seemed to really enjoy seeing, hearing, and trying out some of the equipment. A special thank you to Firefighter, Chris McClory for taking the time to share with us!
Phonological Awareness: Listening for Changes: EX:Using the Itsy Bitsy Spider rhyme, the kids listen for the changes I make. For example I may say, "The itsy-bitsy spider climbed DOWN the waterspout."
Segment Words by Syllables: EX: Using picture cards, the kids jump to the amount of syllables the word is. For example, showing them a picture of a monkey, they would jump twice to mon-key.

Language
Arts: Story Retell: Using the story The Three Little Pigs, the children will retell the first half of the story. The second half of the story is reread so the kids can 'visualize' what is happening and look for picture clues to help think about the characters and what they do.
**PLEASE do the homework piece related to this and return tomorrow!**

DAILY 5: The third component of DAILY 5 is Word Work. This gives the kids hands-on experience with a variety of materials that will help develop your child into a reader, writer, and communicator. They will work with letters, words, sounds, names, rhyming, syllables, etc. Just like the other two components, the children need to build their stamina to develop purposeful independence on these tasks.
Math: How Did I Count?
The idea here is to help the children see how counting needs to be organized. For instance, have you ever noticed your child counting a pile of items in random order? My goal is to have the children start understanding that lining items up, or taking one at a time and move it away from the pile are some examples to organize the count. To do this, I will take small groups while Miss Slettedahl takes the others and works on a Halloween counting book.
Smart Room Highlight: Spiderweb
(Mackenzie & Ethan make 5 vertical lines first, put 5 horizontal lines on top of those, and then an X over all the lines.)
